The 84-year-old British monarch made the statement in addressing the UN General Assembly Ballet flats shoes for the second time in her reign. She made first speech at the General Assembly in 1957, when the UN was all of 12 years old, and when she was a mere four years into her long reign as queen.

For his part, Ban said in a separate statement to welcome the monarch, "Your majesty, you visited this chamber when the United Nations was still young."
