After implementing drastic measures to cope with budget cuts for the 2009-10 school year, the university is looking at more of the same for the next school year.
"We have taken a number of steps so far and will continue being as economical as possible, where possible," said Cal State San Bernardino president Al Karnig.
The measures the school enacted to deal with a $26 million cut in state funding for the 2009-10 school year included reduced enrollment, employee furloughs, hiring freezes, higher student fees, significant reductions in operating and facility maintenance budgets and a variety of other actions.

At a time when the university is still reeling from the measures enacted this year, it is facing $13 million in cuts for the 2010-11 school year.
Christian louboutin sandals This time around, it anticipates enrolling about 1,000 fewer students because of class section cuts and having to shift around programs.
As part of the changes, the university recently announced it will eliminate its intercollegiate women's tennis program for the next school year.
It has also cut athletic scholarships by $45,000 throughout the athletic program in an effort to save nearly $100,000 in 2010-11.

As far as furloughs, nothing is set in stone for the year ahead.
"They are really more of a stopgap measure," said Karnig.

The entire Cal State University system anticipated a $584 million revenue shortfall for 2009-10.
To address the deficit, employee furloughs and a reduction in work force, increased student fees, reduced enrollment and additional cost cutting measures were put in place across the system.

But there may be some light at the end of the tunnel, because the governor wants to restore funds for the UC, CSU and the Heel sandals community colleges, said Karnig.
The governor's proposed 2010-11 budget includes restoring $305 million to the California State Universities' 2010-11 budget, as well as providing an additional $60.6 million for enrollment growth.
In a meeting with higher education leaders on the recent 50th anniversary of the California Master Plan for Higher Education, the governor also made it clear he will not sign the budget unless there are increases in higher education funding.
Heel sandals Nor will he sign the budget, he said, if funding for the state's Cal Grant financial aid program isn't included.
"We believe the governor wants restoration of the funds, but we still have to take care of the short term," Karnig said.
